You might be wondering what the title has to do with the outfit, right? Let me start with a definition: shapeshifter (n): a person or being with the ability to change their physical form at will.
For me, fashion is all about shapeshifting. Although I do not have the powers to change my physical form at will, I can change my exterior whenever I want. That's what clothes do. They allow you to be who you want, when you want, however you want. I know I preach this every other week, but it amazes me how long it took me to accept the fact that I don't need to dress for anyone else but myself.
At the conclusion of the fashion show last weekend, my friend leaned over and mentioned how she was so inspired to start dressing more fiercely or "badass" as she said. I was just as inspired. But it made me wonder, what does it take for all of us to start dressing fiercely? What are we afraid of? Someone calling us weird, not looking appropriate, feeling uncomfortable. There's a million excuses. Most of them having to do with someone else's opinion of us. Why should we care? Fashion is for you. That's what I love about it. I get to be a shapeshifter. One day I can be classic and refined, the next badass and sleek; rock and roll, grunge, boho, casual, couture, the list goes on. Fashion allows me to be whatever I chose externally while retaining what makes me, me. Although an all black, sleek look sure makes me feel a bit like a spy... Next year ;)
